Metal Surfaces

To paint on the metal products such as window grill, window frames, gates etc, not only protects them from rusting but gives a long lasting beauty and adds values to them.

Painting Procedures

Step 1 : Painting Tools Preparation

  • Wire brush/ Paint scraper
  • Sand Paper
  • Putty Knife
  • Paint Brush/ Paint Roller
  • Plastic bucket

Step 2 : Surface Preparation

A. New Surface

  • Sand down the rough surface if necessary.
  • Clean the dirt, grease and contaminants properly. Ensure the surface is stable, flat and completely dry before priming and topcoating.

B. Rusted Surface

  • Remove loose rust or millscales completely by hand scraping or wire brushing.
  • Clean the dirt, grease and contaminants properly. Ensure the surface is stable, flat and completely dry before priming and topcoating.

C. Painted/ Chalking Surface

  • Sand down the gloss finishes before painting. OR
  • Remove the peeling or flaking paint by hand scraping or wire brushing.
  • Clean the dirt, grease and contaminants properly. Ensure the surface is stable, flat and completely dry before priming and topcoating.

Remarks: Nitrocellulose products cannot be used in the polyurethane painting system, vice versa. Test the primer on a small area before painting.

D. Irregular Surface

  • Clean the dirt, grease and contaminants properly.
  • Smooth out the irregularities with GIRAFFE Polyester Auto-Body Putty/ Hardener #628HK/ 634HK and sand down with fine sand paper to give a satisfactory smoothness.
  • Ensure the surface is stable, flat and completely dry before priming and topcoating.

Step 3: Priming/ Undercoating (If necessary)

  • After cleaning and patching up the metal surface, apply 1 coat of suitable primer by paint brush, roller or spray, so as to provide a strong adhering foundation for the paint systems.
  • For a better result, apply 1 more coat of undercoat before topcoating.

Step 4 : Topcoating

  • After priming/ undercoating the surface, sand down the surface until flat. Apply the first topcoat and allow it to dry completely. Recoat the second coat.

Health & Safety Precautions:

  • Provide adequate ventilation during paint application.
  • Wear fume masks and protective clothings to protect the eye from the paint chips or dust, and avoid skin contact or inhalation of spray mist.
  • If the product comes in contact with the skin, wash thoroughly with luke warm water, and soap or suitable cleanser.
  • If the eyes are contaminated, flush with water or diluted boric acid solution for minimum 10 minutes and obtain medical attention at once.
  • Close the lid tightly after use and store at a cool, dry place, so as to prevent the evaporation of the paint and to reduce the risk of fire hazards by avoiding sparks and open flames.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
