Green

Green stands as a symbol of nature, life, balance and harmony. It raises people’s concentration. Softer tones of green colour create a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. Mint and aqua bring us a refreshing feeling while apple and lime green create brightness and joy atmosphere. Green works well with the earth tone colours. A combination of green, grey, brown or other neutral colours can make up a contemporary living room. On the other hand, light greens in addition to light cream or soft yellows will be a good choice for decorating the kitchens and dining rooms. The raising of environmental trends makes green colours very popular in the recent years. The soft greens and yellows room can be accessorized with deep wood decorations, wrought iron, muted or brushed metallic furniture, making it more energetic.


 

Violet/ Lilac

Violet is a royal, romantic, mystery and charming colour, which creates artistic and theatrical environments. It has powerful calming and healing effects, and also promotes the observation, sensitivity and compassion. It can be balanced with whites and pastels to make a more harmonic environment. Recently, violet is no longer limited to little girl’s bedrooms. It is now more common to decorate a room with lavender on purple or maroon. To carry violet to a higher level, we can accessorize purple hued room with metallic furniture, decorations and rich fabrics.

Warm Colours

Warm colours are colours derived from the sun, including the hues from red through orange and yellow. They usually domineer over the cool colours and give a feeling of lively, happy and stimulating. Hence, warm colours are more suitable to highlight part of your room, rather then using it as a base colour.

Red

Red is a powerful, aggressive, energetic and stimulating colour, which grabs people’s attention easily. So, it is good to become a statement piece or a feature wall in a room, where movement and activity are high. Working room, dining rooms, living rooms or open kitchens are suggested to highlight with some red colours or decorative accessories. However, overwhelmed red colours can make people feel irritable, impatient and even angry.

Pink

Pink on pink is another trendy choice in the recent years. A bold saturated pink sets a room strong and feminine, while warm and sophisticated atmosphere is made by using a statement pink. Little lavender on pink provides a bit of contrast to make an appealing and pleasant room. Addition of metallic or sharp edged decorations does bring strength into the color scheme, which helps to avoid giving it a girlish feel.

Orange

Orange, a colour par excellence of happiness, stimulates the mental activity, frees emotions, fights depression and promotes self-esteem and forgiveness capacity. A splash of orange in a study or children’s playroom enhances the motivations of the children. And, orange can stimulate appetite and digestion, therefore, good to be used in kitchens and dining rooms.

Yellow

Yellow, a bright colour like sunshine, brings us cheerful, optimistic and exciting feeling. It raises spirits, promotes assimilation of new ideas and organizational ability, in which so ideal for a child’s room or in an entrance hallway. Bright yellow can act as a statement piece, in connection with blue or green colours that brings a measure of security and calm to the room. Avoid painting bright yellow in large quantities since it is too stimulating for the eyes and nervous system.

Brown
Brown, an earth-tone colour, brings to mind feelings of warmth, comfort, stable and security. It helps to create a nurturing atmosphere in a room. Brown colours are highly versatile, but best to pair up with green or warm tones, like olive greens, rich red and terra-cotta.

 


Black

Black gives a feeling of formal, elegant and mysterious. Black highlights other colours, enhances their powers and adds a sensation of refinement and drama. Be aware that too much black in a space can feel smothering and make the room visually smaller. Black can team up with other colours in home decorations. Matching black with cool colours brings a cooler and purer feeling. On the other hand, matching black with warm colours enhances the deepness and mystery of the colours. When bright colours are in contrast with black, it creates a modern style impression. The classic combination of black and white can create big contrast and simple lines; however, overusing them will make a room too masculine and functional, lacking of liveliness and warmth.

White

White represents innocence, purity, simplicity, refreshing and peace. It is light, neutral, and goes with every colour, therefore, is an excellent base colour. It can be used to add space but can be very empty, uninviting, unfriendly and cold. Too much white makes the eyes tired. If you feel too dark, too bright or too colourful in a room, addition of white can make it more balanced, without reducing other colours’ characteristics. For example, combination of white and yellow/red makes a room more vivid and active. Matching white furniture with glass creates s a refreshing atmosphere.
