Formaldehyde - The Hidden Killer According to the evening news on 28-5-2009 at TVB Jade channel, the formaldehyde and (volatile organic compound) VOC content of Hong Kong indoor environments is the highest among most Asian countries. The average formaldehye level reaches 112.3 mg/m3. Base on the research results of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, over 40% of residential properties, whose average formaldehyde level is over 100 mg/ m3. Such high formaldehyde level is 30% more than that of Taiwan and 3 times of Japan! Formaldehyde is proved to be carinogenic by the World Health Organization. When people are slightly in contact with formaldehye, it may cause panting, uncomfortable feeling, skin irritation, tears stimulation and headache. If people are in long term exposure, it may cause chronic respiratory diseases, nasopharyngeal cancer, colon cancer, brain tumor, chromosome mutation in the cell nucleus etc. Since the source of formaldehyde and VOCs are mainly the architetural materials and paints, it's important to choose the correct products for your decoration and renovation projects. According to the GB/T16129-1995 standard of the National Environmental Monitoring Center, it is proved that the "Flower Formaldehyde Odour-Less Interior Emulsion Paint" can sucessfully decompose formaldehyde into water and carbon dioxide.
